We have included a list below of the most common
questions for our made to measure bespoke plain
mirrors.
Is there a way I can prevent my mirror
steaming up?
Yes, simply stick our Mirror Demister pads on
the back of the mirror to ensure a completely
mist free mirror.
What is a polished edge on plain mirrors?
The edge of plain mirrors are extremely sharp
and brittle once they have been cut. The polishing
of the mirrors edge smoothes it. This ensures
you can not get cut and also provides a smoother
surface for fixing two mirror next to each other.
What is a bevelled mirror?
This is an approximately 25mm (3/4 inch) wide
edge where the mirror is slightly angled. Plain
mirrors typically have a polished edge instead
of bevelled, however, the bevelled edge can create
quite a contemporary framed effect which is becoming
fashionable.
How do I fix plain mirrors to the wall?
There are several methods you can use to fix a
mirror of this size:
- Holes can be drilled into the mirror to allow
fixing with mirrored dome capped screws.
- We can supply brackets which are screwed to
the wall allowing the mirror to slot in and
out of the brackets
- Alternatively you can use the adhesive method
where building adhesive is used to glue the
mirror to the wall. We recommend fixing using
adhesive as this leaves the cleanest finish.
We have fixed mirrors 2mX2.5m in size with this
approach with no problems. Simply cover the
back of the mirror in elongated S-shaped lines
of glue, each line separated by about 15cm.
This adhesive is available from most builders
merchants.
For example:
Go to www.diy.co.uk and do a search on "no
more nails" or "unibond".

Will steam damage a mirror in the bathroom?
Provided the back of the mirror is not exposed
to excessive steam or direct contact with water
the mirrors will remain in perfect condition for
years to come. We use the best quality materials
and combining our Silver Backing with Safety Backing
means our mirrors have been used in many bathrooms
without any problems with steam.
What is safety backing on a plain mirror?
For health and safety reason, large plain mirrors
always come with safety backing as it prevents
the glass from splintering if ever broken. This
ensures the mirror can be used in the bathroom
and also increases its resistance to steam corrosion.
